Module

My lesson is to teach how to place an image onto a MySpace page. The inspiration towards teaching this lesson comes from the input of a few of my friends who do not know how to upload an image onto their page. One of my friends told me she just recently found out how to add a countdown to her page. I often place images on my webpage as I feel they show an expression of my interests and personality. I place photos that I have taken, as well as self-expression images or avatars.

This lesson if directed mainly towards those with a MySpace page who would like to enhance the appearance of their page by placing images that shows their character and personal taste. This lesson is important to enhance self-expression and individuality through creativity.

Learning Objectives

  • Students will understand concept of images that may be applied to a profile
  • Students will know where to find images for a profile
  • Students will understand resources that allow uploading of images for a page
  • Students will demonstrate ability to apply copy and paste method to the image for applying to a profile
  • Students will demonstrate an applied gain in knowledge regarding MySpace profile editing.

Tools needed

  • A computer or laptop with Internet access (wireless broadband or dial up).

Historical significance

MySpace has become a highly well known social website, often called a social networking website, that offers a high range of social interaction methods by using a network of friends, profiles, blogs, groups, music, and videos  (Wikipedia: MySpace, 2008). The founder of MySpace is Tom Anderson. The headquarters are in Beverly Hills, California, in which does not disclose revenues or profits, hence making MySpace a free source for adults and teenagers across the globe (Wikipedia: MySpace, 2008).

MySpace personal profiles offer links to networking and sharing friends, a place to blog, present music and videos, and create individuality by designing your own web page with layouts and images.

Personal experience

I first was introduced to MySpace in 2005. A month after I graduated high school, an old friend of mine sent me a link to her web page. I had no idea what MySpace was before this, but I soon after set up my own account and started using it daily. At first, I was completely lost on how to add a layout and photos directly onto my page. I was having a hard time finding tutorials online as well. I had a friend of mine come over and teach me how.

After that, changing my layouts from using websites such as WhateverLife  became a breeze. Also, websites such as MySpace Tutorials helped with any areas that may have been confusing. I soon later discover how to upload images onto my page from a tutorial. I realize however that not everyone is so computer savvy and that MySpace ‘codes’ to edit profile pages can be confusing.

Some other people who have had success with the type of technology I am about to teach include many friends and acquaintances of mine who are on the “friends” list on MySpace. One in particular is the creator of the website WhateverLife, who goes by “Ashbo” and has her own MySpace page. This website offers MySpace layouts, graphics, “image and stuff,” and many tutorials on how to edit areas of MySpace (WhateverLife, 2008).

Additional Reading

For those who are beginner to MySpace and need some prepping on the areas of the MySpace profile page and basic editing, I suggest additional reading from sites such as WhateverLife and MySpace Tutorials before continuing with this module.
